Routine Surgical Procedures

Surgery can be scarier for pet owners than pets having an operation. Your pet is in good hands with us. Anesthesia is carefully monitored throughout their procedure. We call immediately post-surgery to keep you informed of your pet’s condition. When it’s time to take your pet home, you are given thorough instructions to help your pet heal after surgery.

We perform spay & neuter surgeries, Cesarean sections, wound repair, dental surgery, and more.

Even if your pet has an emergency after-hours, please call 830-672-VETS so we can take care of your fur family!

What happens if my pet needs surgery?

Understanding how to support your pet before and after surgery helps relieve any anxiety you may have. Let us walk you through what to expect when your pet undergoes surgery at Chisholm Trail Veterinary Clinic of Gonzales.

  1. The night before your pet’s surgery:
Make sure your pet doesn’t eat after 10:00pm the night before surgery.
  2. The day of surgery:
Check-in for surgery is between 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. Once your pet is checked in, your veterinarian will discuss expectations and answer questions.
  3. During surgery:
Your pet is admitted to the hospital, then taken for lab work. A simple blood test is needed to determine the correct amount of anesthesia for your pet. After lab work is complete, your pet is sedated and surgery begins.
  4. After surgery:
Expect a call once your pet’s surgical procedure is complete. Please be sure you are available to receive our phone call. Your pet is sent home with a detailed list of medications and home-care instructions.

If you have questions about your pet’s surgery, please call us right away at 830-672-VETS.
